Automotive Coolant System Repair Service in Calgary, Alberta

Mechanic doing Pick Up Truck Coolant Systems Repair at Foothills Group

Your truck’s coolant system is responsible for maintaining safe and consistent temperatures in your engine as you drive. Consider that as you drive, your truck’s engine produces a high amount of heat. In a typical diesel engine, the gases in the combustion chamber can reach 2,800° F. In a gasoline-powered engine, the temperature can climb to 4,500° F. Vehicle coolant systems are designed to dissipate this extreme heat in order to prevent engine damage.

The temperature of the external environment can also impact how your coolant system functions. If the engine temperature is too low, fuel economy will suffer and emissions will rise. If the temperature is allowed to get too hot for too long, the engine will break down.

The modern cooling system is far more reliable and efficient than those of older vehicles. The cooling system consists of liquid coolant being circulated through the engine, then out to the radiator to be cooled by the air stream coming through the front grill of the vehicle. At Foothills Group, our expert team is able to handle all models of pickups and SUVs and can navigate through the complex cooling system of your vehicle to ensure it’s serviced and able to protect your engine.

What makes up the cooling system?

Your cooling system controls your truck engine temperature by moving liquid coolant through the engine block and heads. The coolant picks up heat from the engine as it moves through these passages and carries it to the radiator at the front of your truck. As it flows through the thin tubes in the radiator, the hot liquid is cooled by the air stream entering the engine compartment from the grill. The then cooled fluid circulates back to the engine to absorb more heat.

Your coolant system is typically made up of:

  • Hoses
  • Thermostat
  • Heater Core
  • Radiator Cooling Fans
  • Pressure Cap & Reserve Tank
  • Water Pump
  • Bypass System
  • Freeze Plugs
  • Head Gaskets & Intake Manifold Gaskets

With such an important job, it’s important that you maintain proper service to your coolant system. Many of the hoses can wear and become damaged over time. The coolant and antifreeze levels need to be monitored and gaskets need to be checked to ensure proper seals. You can trust the team at Foothills Group to thoroughly inspect and repair all aspects of your truck’s coolant system.
